F-S Swimcats

The F-S Swimcats competed in the region 2 championship in Owensboro on Feb. 9-10. The Franklin Simpson swim team traveled to Owensboro Feb. 9-10, 2020 to compete in the region 2 swim championship meet.

Competing for the boys team was Hayden Satterly, Braxton Jenkins, Kody Alexander, Seth Pinson, Ty Killen, Payton Brown, Ben Coates, and Kris Cummings. Competing for the girls team was Rylie Spears, Shelby Caudill, Zoe Graves, Kaydin Alexander, Maggie McBrayer, Morgan Hunter, Shelby Scott, Addy Boyd, Mollie Fowler, Hayley Fowler, Harley Burton, Riley Davis, and Meryn McBrayer. Faith Adams was unable to attend due to an injury.

The boys team finishing in ninth place was the best in school history. The relay team of Kody Alexander, Payton Brown, Hayden Satterly, and Braxton Jenkins finished tied for the best finish in school history as they placed sixth in the 200 yard medley relay. They were the highest finishing team in the medley relay and the youngest as all four are 8th graders. Alexander, Brown, and Satterly combined with Seth Pinson to finish a respectable 9th place in the 400 free relay. Alexander, Satterly, and Jenkins combined with Ty Killen to place 9th in the 200 freestyle relay. Individually Satterly placed 8th in the 100 fly event. Also placing 14th in the fly event was Braxton Jenkins. Kris Cumming and Ben Coates were competitors in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke events.

On the girls side Shelby Caudill, Rylie Spears, Morgan Hunter and Kaydin Alexander combined to swim the 200 yard medley relay to finish in a team goal 10th place. Swimming with Caudill and Alexander in the 200 yard freestyle relay were Maggie McBrayer, and Shelby Scott as they finished in 9th place. In the 400 freestyle relay Zoe Graves, Morgan Hunter, Spears, and Caudill combined to finish in 13th place. Leading the way individually were senior Rylie Spears as she placed 13th in the 100 breaststroke event. 7th grader Morgan Hunter became the youngest swimmer in school history to place in an individual event as she swam to and outstanding 13th place finish in the 100 fly event.

Rylie Spears is the only senior on this year’s team. She plans to attend Murray State University. The team would like to thank the parents, School Board, WKU Preston Center staff and lifeguards, the High School staff and Athletic Director for supporting this sport.
