Hayden Young of Bowling Green defeated Matt Fuqua also of Bowling Green, in a one-hole playoff to capture the 65th annual Franklin Country Club Invitational played Aug. 10 and 11. Both players finished with a five under par total of 135. Fuqua (2014, 2016, 2017 winner) shot four under par 66 on Saturday to share the lead with Alec Silchuk of Franklin while Young was two shots back after carding a 68 in the opening round. Young cut the lead to one shot after shooting three under par 33 on the opening nine on Sunday while Fuqua shot a two under par 34. Young birdied the 10th hole to get even, but fell one back after a bogey at the 13th hole. However, he bounced back with birdies on the 14th and 15th holes to take a one shot lead going into the final three. Both players made par on the 16th and bogies on the 17th, but Fuqua birdied the 18th to force the playoff. Both players returned to the 18th hole where Fuqua three putted for bogey and Young safely made par for the victory,

Franklin golfer and 2015 champion, Troy Wilson and Kyle Shirley of Bowling Green, also made a run at the championship. After shooting one over par 71 on Saturday, Wilson fired a five under par 65 on Sunday. However, he made a bogey on his last hole to finish in a tie with Shirley at 136 and one shot out of the playoff. Shirley came out red hot Sunday, shooting six under par on the front nine and finishing with a seven under par 63 which was ten shots better than his opening round score of 73.

The Franklin Country Club hosted 224 golfers representing eight states with eight past champions in the field. There were 11 flights with prizes being awarded to the top eight golfers in each flight.
