The Franklin-Simpson Wildcats' Cheer Team has qualified for the Universal Cheerleaders Association Nationals Cheerleading competition at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

On Saturday, the team competed in the Bluegrass Championships in Louisville at the UCA Regionals and finished third on their game day routine to qualify for the national competition on Feb. 7-9. They were one of the four teams that received a bid for nationals in their division.

It's the second year in a row that the cheer team has qualified to compete in the UCA Nationals.

"Saturday went really well for us," Abbi Jones said. "We all had a positive attitude heading into the competition. We worked hard, hit all of our stunts and looked good. This time, we are going back with even bigger goals. Our goal is to compete in the next stage, the semifinals."

"It is exciting that we get to go back," Sierra Mosely said. "I felt like we did good and we are all excited that we are going back to Disney World."

"I was more nervous after the routine as we were waiting and waiting and waiting to get out name called," TeAnna Prince said. "It went from bottom to the top and once they got to fourth and didn't hear our name, we all knew we are heading back to nationals."

Now the team has to get ready for another competition this weekend at the KHSAA Regionals at Owensboro on Saturday. They will be competing in a nine-team division with only the top two teams advancing to state on Dec. 7.

"We're happy to get our bid for nationals. We will celebrate that later as we now have another goal that we have to achieve and that is to qualify for state cheer," Cheer Team head coach Jessi Eaton said. "With only two teams advancing, we will be working on our stunts and being really tight in our motions. Plus, we are also working on our run through of our game night on Friday. So we are having a very busy week but the girls are ready for this week."

The cheer team is coached by Jessi Eaton and Atalie Jones and consists of: Lyric Blair, Carra Chaney, Kira Coleman, Jaden Culverhouse, MaKaylie Gammon, Lexie Groves, Kayleigh Hinton, Abbi Jones, Gracie McMillin, Sierra Mosely, Sydney Nickolson, TeAnna Prince, Haley Racine, Megan Shrum, Josie Snyder, Rachel Spears and Cheyenne Vance.
