STAFF REPORT

Sign ups for Wildcats Junior Football are Thursday, July 11 at 6 p.m. at the pavilion at the F-S Football Stadium.

Franklin-Simpson Wildcat Head Football Coach Doug Preston said sign ups are earlier this year because of the change in playing format.

The fee is $35 for one player. If siblings are playing the cost is $25 per sibling. When signing up with a friend the cost is $30 each.

The helmet and shoulder pads are provided.

Beginning this season, the 5th and 6th grade will play together as one team in conference play against surrounding counties. The local teams will not play each other.

Preston said the decision to play surrounding counties was based on discussion with F-S high school football coaches, parents and through observations. He said the goal in this decision is to make the experience more exciting and fun.

The team will be called Wildcats and wear traditional F-S colors.

Fifth and 6th grade players begin practice July 22 with non-padded practices to develop skills.

Third and 4th grade will play select conference games against surrounding counties and play a limited number of games against each other.

If there is an overwhelming interest in playing as one 3rd and 4th grade team like 5th and 6th grade a decision may be made to do so. Contact Preston if there is an interest to play as one team.

Preston plans to announce more information regarding 3rd and 4th grade play in the near future. Flag football continues for P-2 players within the county. Preston also plans to announce more information about flag football in the upcoming weeks.
