The Franklin-Simpson Lady Cats shut out the Monroe County Lady Falcons 7-0 in their final home match of the season Oct. 1 at the F-S Soccer and Softball Complex.
“Overall, tonight’s match went pretty well,” Lady Cats head coach Alissa Williams said. “There are some things that we needed to work on in the beginning. We weren’t playing to our full potential but then we picked it up in the second half and ended up winning.”
“This is kind of bittersweet,” Kate Norwood said. “I would do anything to restart these four years. I love my family that I have made here. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.”
Just like in their opening match of the season, Norwood, who is a senior, scored five goals. She deposited two in the back of the net early and late in the 1st Half. Also junior Elsa Humphrey and freshman Kennedi Alexander scored goals for a 4-0 lead at intermission.
In the 2nd Half, the offense was aggressive as Norwodd scored a hat trick of goals. She also added a pair of assists along with junior Anna Walker. Humphrey also added an assist and senior Lexi Phillips stopped seven shots and junior Aubrey Taylor stopped two shots as the defense recorded their second shutout of the season for the 7-0 victory.
“I wanted to get a goal so bad tonight,” Phillips said. “It’s the coach’s choice to pull me out of goal but I always ask whenever we are up to get a chance to get in there. We need to come together as a tram this week and that should get us ready for the district tournament.”
“We played our heart out,” Alexander said. “We could have done a few more things but we are going to continue to keep working towards another win and hopefully that the work we put in will lead to us winning another district tournament.”
