The high school basketball season finally got moving last week after a delay this year. Russellville hit the road to open the season at Caverna on January 5th. Both the Panthers and Lady panthers picked up a win to open 2021.

Last Thursday, Russellville hosted Metcalfe County in a boys/girls doubleheader. The Lady Panthers took the court first and fell 56-53 on a buzzer-beating 3-point shot. The Panthers followed with an 80-68 setback.

Jaquis Todd had a fantastic night against Metcalfe with 25 points. Todd was nine-of-ten from the free throw line. He also hit two 3-pointers. Jovari Gamble scored ten on the night. Josh Allen put up eight and Kendahl Edmonds followed with six.

The Lady Panthers and Lady Hornets from Metcalfe County played close throughout the game on Thursday. Russellville held a 16-15 lead after the first period. The Lady Hornets took at 29-27 lead into the locker room. After three, it was 38-35 in favor of the visitors. The Lady Panthers tied the game with only seconds left in the game. Metcalfe County drove down the court and drained a three as the buzzer sounded. The final was 56-53.

A’miyah Collier led the Lady Panthers with 13 points. The Senior Chloe Whitescarver and Anastasia Dowlen scored ten each. Brinley Mason and Jaylah Kees finished with six a piece.

The Lady Panthers beat Trinity (Whitesville) on Saturday, 68-41.

Both Russellville teams were scheduled to play in the 4th Region All “A” Classic on Monday after the NDL press deadline.
