To the person(s) who felt emboldened to walk right up to the back of my building in the alley on the north side of the Square and take a 7-8 foot umbrella tree (giant schefflera):

I had that plant, which is normally a decorative feature at The Old Favorite, outside to get rain water because I've been treating it for scale. That plant was special because it was a friend's plant that she received as a funeral gift for a family member. My first reaction upon discovering it missing was to hope that every plant you might have would get infected by scale. Now I am wondering if someone could be so clueless as to think it was being discarded even though it looked great and was in a decent pot. I am trying to improve my attitude toward other people even though it's been difficult lately and this didn't help my efforts at self-improvement, but I'm willing to give the benefit of doubt and simply be happy if you return it, openly or secretly. In the future I will be sure to mark it as being treated for some dread disease, even if it's just out for a shower and drink.

Sincerely,

Lu Ann Ferguson
