James Edward Neal, age 61, of Franklin, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home where services were held Wednesday, Oct. 16, with burial in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

A native of Simpson County, he was the son of Paul Neal who resides in Franklin and the late Betty Jo Pedigo Neal.

James was a resident of the Gold City Community since 1971. He and his wife Patty owned and have operated Gold City Grocery for the past 17 years. Anyone that entered the grocery would always be greeted with a smile from James. He was a 1975 graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School where he was a well known football player which earned him the name "Big Neal" that carried over until today.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Neal.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Patty Weissinger Neal of Franklin; three children, Amy Jo Neal Walton (Len) of Franklin; Jamie Pearl Neal of Bowling Green and Carissa Lynn Marlin (Chris) of Franklin; two sisters, Retha Hinton of Franklin and Lois Patterson (Lee) of Westmoreland, Tennessee; one brother, Joe Neal (Tina) of Franklin; grandchildren, Nathan, Ethan, Andrew, Keeton and Kaylee.
