The Rev. Gale Wetzel, age 82, of Franklin died Monday, Jan. 6, 2020 at The Medical Center at Franklin.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 11 at First United Methodist Church in Franklin. Burial followed in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Scottsville.

He was the son of the late Carter Thomas Wetzel and Dorothy Glidon Bennett Wetzel.

Gale graduated from Calhoun High School in 1955, attended Murray State College and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1962. He received a Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1967.

Gale had a career of preaching for over 60 years sharing Jesus Christ with people all over the world. He served for 24 years at the Green River Correctional Complex retiring June 6, 2019.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Gumm Wetzel of Franklin; two children, Dorothy Pauline “Paula” Winter (Deceased) and Owen Wetzel and wife Pat of Louisville; grandchildren, Julia-Caitlin Laster, Emma-Thomas Laster, Kay Cantwell, Haley Wetzel, Hannah Wetzel, Kyle Winter, Abigale Winter and Tanya Winter along with one great grandchild, Violetta Marie Winter. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great great nephews.
