Simpson County's unemployment rate dropped seven tenths of one percent from March to April. It was Simpson County's first monthly drop in the unemployment rate since November 2018.

Kentucky Labor Force Estimates place Simpson County's preliminary April unemployment rate at 3.9 percent. The revised March rate was 4.6 percent.

Simpson County's April 2019 unemployment rate was four tenths of one percent higher than the April 2018 rate of 3.5 percent.

Simpson County had the third highest unemployment rate in the Barren River Area Development District in April 2019.

During April Simpson County's civilian labor force totaled 9,065 people of which 8,713 were employed and 352 were unemployed.

Simpson County's unemployment rate was higher than both the district's 3.6 percent and the nation's 3.3 percent, and was the same as the state's 3.9 percent.

Warren County's 3.3 percent unemployment rate was the district's lowest and state's sixth lowest. Edmonson County's 4.2 percent was the district's highest.

Allen County had an unemployment rate of 3.7 percent. Logan County's rate was 3.5 percent.

Unemployment rates fell in 89 Kentucky counties between April 2018 and April 2019, rose in 21 and stayed the same in 10 counties.

Woodford County recorded the state's lowest unemployment rate in April 2019 at 2.7 percent. Magoffin County recorded the state's highest unemployment rate at 10.5 percent.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than to count the number of people who are working. Civilian labor force statistics include persons who are actively seeking employment, not those who have not looked for work during the past four weeks.
