Wildcat Wilderness 5K set for this weekend

Simpson County Schools is now accepting registrations for the Wildcat Wilderness 5K Trail Run/Walk, sponsored by Graves Gilbert, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Simpson County School Pavillion.

Tickets are available for $20 through https://www.active.com/franklin-ky/running/trail-run/wildcat-wilderness-5k-trail-run-walk-2018 and will benefit the F-S cross-country team. Race packets will be available from the pavilion starting at 8 a.m. and anyone who registered before April 5 can pick up an event shirt. Remaining shirts will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis.

"The track is mostly unpaved, natural grass and gravel with some dirt paths," Accounts Specialist Michelle Guess said. "The majority will be in the wooded area by Simpson Elementary."

Guess said the wooded trail protects against mild rains, so the event will take place as scheduled barring severe weather. Parking is available at Simpson Elementary School.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., awards will be presented to the overall male and female winners, along with the top three finishers in each category. Door prizes are also available.

"This is the final event for the Wildcat Wellness Challenge, but we're also inviting the community to join us," Guess said. "The cross-country team will be inviting other local teams from high schools and middle schools as well."
