The third annual Franklin Family Movie Nights kicks off on Saturday, June 8 on the Simpson County Courthouse Lawn beginning at dusk.

"This year we have tried to mix up the movies a little bit so that we can have some of the younger kids, some of the older kids and just get a different mix," said Chad White, the event's organizer.

White started movie nights, which are free to attend, gives families something to do together during the summer. He used an online survey to determine which movies would be showed.

"It is just something I've done on my own so if there is anybody in the community that comes out and can enjoy it even if it is five or ten people then I am fine with that," White said. "It is just something else that we have in Franklin that adds to the community."

Last year, White said he added themes to the movie nights and brought in Kona Ice, a food-truck of Bowling Green, to expand interest in the movie nights.

This year, when White posted the ideas for theme nights and the movie list on Facebook he said the post received 20,000 views and had been shared over 400 times.

The movie schedule this year includes "A Dogs Way Home" on June 8, "Remember the Titans" on June 22, "Incredibles 2" on July 13, "The Lion King" on July 20, "Captain Marvel" on Aug. 3, "Greatest Showman" on Aug. 17 and "Wreck It Ralph 2" on Aug. 31.

Each movie night has a theme to match the movie being shown. June 8 is Glow Night where free glow sticks will be given out to attendees, June 22 is Faith and Family Night with free mini footballs, July 13 is Special Abilities Night with free ice cream, July 20 is Disney Throw Back with free hot dogs, Aug. 3 is Teen Night with Strategic Laser Tag from Bowling Green, Aug. 17 is Girls Night Out and Aug. 31 is free popcorn night.

White said Strategic Laser Tag will set up a mobile laser tag course using blow up hunting blinds and will be available for teens for two and a half hours. The company allows up to 10 people at a time to move through the course.

"I just want to make sure that it is family friendly and that people that are bringing their kids that it is an event that they are open to come to," White said.

He asks that anyone attending the movie night be respectful of the property and everyone watching the movie.

"I mean it really is no different than if you go to a movie in a theater, just be respectful of everyone that is around you and have fun," White said.

White wanted to thank all of the sponsors for the Franklin Family Movie Nights, which allows him to put on the events for the community.

Sponsors for the movie nights are South Central Bank, Inc., Zaxby's, Red Haven Properties, Chad White with Shelter Insurance, Vital Signs and Graphics, Franklin Downtown Merchants, Franklin-Simpson Renaissance, Franklin-Simpson Community Arts Council, The White Box, First Baptist Church of Franklin, El Potrero Cantina and Grill, Crosspoint Tabernacle, Impact Youth Sports, Willow Hill Marketplace, Kenzie Parker Boutique by Jamie Tuck and Quality Personnel.
