The sold out, pop-up dinner, "The ART of: Conversation," was held as a benefit fundraiser for the Simpson County Guild of Artists and Craftsmen (also known as the Gallery on the Square) on Jan. 2, 2020 at the historic Simpson County Courthouse.

"I am extremely pleased with the turnout for a first time event, especially when ticket purchasers did not know all the details at time of purchase," said Lisa Deavers, executive director for the Gallery on the Square.

Guests were encouraged to engage in conversation with their table guests and all event guests through a series of activities that prompted conversation. One game was similar to bingo where each guest was given a card with clues to other guests. The first person to complete five squares vertically, horizontally or diagonally yelled "Guild."

Anne Mann was the first person to complete five and received a handmade Kentucky basket as her prize.

"The feedback has been phenomenal and we are already getting requests for our next dinner event not only from those wanting to attend but those who would like to

host us," Deavers said.

The dinner's location was disclosed on Dec. 31 to ticket purchasers. "The ART of: Conversation" included catering by Kathy Poston and live music by Mark Hardison.

Throughout the year, the Gallery will host dinners each quarter as fundraisers. Locations for future dinners will be within Simpson County and will be held at different venues that are selected for their uniqueness in the community. Each dinner will feature a local caterer and the theme, activities and number of tickets sold will vary based on the location.

"The community support for the Gallery is amazing and these events will help us increase awareness of the Gallery and the Simpson County Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, as well as local artists," Deavers said. "I am thankful to have a supportive board that helps make these events possible."

The Simpson County Guild of Artists and Craftsmen is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that has been representing local artists and craftsmen in the Gallery on the Square at 110 N. Main St. since 1992.

The funds for the non-profit organization are obtained through commissions on the sales of guild member works, fundraisers, classes, donations and grants.

The next fundraisers will be the 2nd annual "Our Amazing Small Town Race" on April 11 and the second in the series of "The ART of: Dinner Series" either in April or May. For more information on the Guild fundraisers or to become a member, call the Gallery at 270-586-8055 or email@galleryonthesquare.org.
