The mothers of owners Michael Ferrell and Zach Vincent held either side of the red ribbon for the Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting at The Parlor at Little Bent Farm last week.

With the opening of their year-round farm store, Ferrell and Vincent are closing in on a dream that started back in 2014 when they were home gardening. They now have a four-season farm along a beautiful stretch of the West Fork of Drakes Creek with approximately 2 acres in cultivation and grow year-round in two unheated high tunnels. Vincent tells us that "we began gardening because we value a healthy lifestyle and understand the importance of knowing where our food comes from. Finding quality local food was and is difficult so we set out to grow our own and share it with you." Ferrell adds, "we grow using natural, sustainable and ecologically responsible growing practices. Although we are not certified organic, we practice organic methods."

Ferrell and Vincent have renovated the old (1970s) milk parlor that existed when they purchased the property into what is now their farm store: The Parlor at Little Bent Farm. In addition to the produce they grow, they partner with other local farmers and producers so that they can carry a wide variety of products at The Parlor. For example, they have Jackson's sausage and bacon and canned goods from Half Pint Farm & Fiber. They will continue to add products to the farm store so that they can get closer to bringing you "one stop shopping" for fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and breads. Something that is important to the owners is that everyone has access to fresh, healthy food. Ferrell and Vincent are in the process of becoming a retail vendor in the Community Farm Alliance's Double Dollars Program in 2020. The mission of the Kentucky Double Dollars program is to remove obstacles of SNAP participants to increase the purchase and consumption of locally grown food with point-of-sale double dollars incentives.
