A barn at 152 Salem Road in northeast Simpson County was destroyed by fire on Friday, Sept. 27.

Franklin-Simpson Fire Rescue was called at 1 p.m. and worked on the scene until 4:45 p.m.

Fire Chief Leslie Goodrum said the miscellaneous contents of the barn, owned by Garland Estes, was also destroyed.

Goodrum said the 45-foot by 45-foot wood frame barn was fully involved by the blaze when firefighters arrived. He said a passing motorist reported the fire. The motorist said one quarter to one third of the barn was engulfed in flames when the call was made.

Some hay bales that were about 75 feet from the barn also caught on fire. However, firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to a nearby cornfield.

Goodrum said the cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.

There were no injuries.
