The 37th Annual Garden Spot 5K Walk, Run, hosted by the Franklin-Simpson Chamber of Commerce, is taking place on Saturday in downtown Franklin.

Day of registration is taking place on Aug. 10 from 5:30 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. and the cost to register at the event is $30.

The race begins at 7:30 a.m. for runners and 7:32 a.m. for walkers. The event takes place rain or shine, according to Franklin-Simpson Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Steve Thurmond.

The electronic timing system is being used again this year to track the runners and walkers as they leave the start line and cross the finish line of the race.

The course, which is the same as years past, takes participants through residential areas and includes shaded areas for the runners and walkers.

The Garden Spot is sponsored by The Medical Center at Franklin with contributing sponsors Citizens First Bank, City of Franklin, Franklin Bank & Trust, Franklin Favorite, Franklin Precision Industry, Franklin-Simpson Industrial Authority, Harman, Kentucky Downs, Legacy Group properties, price Less IGA, Simpson County Fiscal Court, South Central Bank and Wilkins Eye Care.

In addition, the annual ½ mile Moo Run for children ages 6-10 is taking place on Friday, Aug. 9 and is free attend. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and the race will start at 6 p.m. at Franklin City Hall.

Chaney's Dairy Barn sponsors the event and every child receives a medal and coupon for a free kid's scoop of ice cream at Chaney's.

Interested parties can sign up for the Garden Spot online at runsignup.com and choose Garden Spot Run. Thurmond said there is an up charge if going through the online service. Registrations are also available in the pamphlets at the Franklin-Simpson Chamber of Commerce and they take cash or check.
