Simpson County’s unemployment rate dropped one tenth of one% from November 2019 to December 2019. The December 2019 unemployment rate was six tenths of a% higher than the December 2018 rate.
Kentucky Labor Force Estimates place Simpson County’s December 2019 unemployment rate at 4.1%. The November 2019 rate was 4.2%. The December 2018 rate was 3.5%.
During December 2019 Simpson County had civilian labor force of 9,136 people of which 8,764 were employed and 372 were unemployed.
Simpson County’s December unemployment rate was higher than the Barren River Area Development District’s four%, higher than the state’s 3.9% and higher than the nation’s 3.4%.
Monroe County had the district’s lowest unemployment rate in December at 3.3%, which was also the state’s sixth lowest rate. Hart County had the district’s highest unemployment rate at 5.6%.
Warren County and Logan County each had an unemployment rate of 3.8% while Allen County’s was 3.7%.
Unemployment rates increased in 56 Kentucky counties between December 2018 and December 2019, fell in 46 counties and stayed the same in 18 counties.
Oldham County recorded the lowest jobless rate in Kentucky in December 2019 at 2.7%. Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 13.8%.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than to count the number of people who are working. Civilian labor force statistics include persons who are actively seeking employment, not those who have not looked for work during the past four weeks.
