A Franklin man died in a collision involving the vehicle he was driving and a train in Simpson County on Saturday, Jan. 9.

A Kentucky State Police press release says a preliminary investigation revealed that Eric L. Webb, 23, was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Peden Mill Road. Webb’s vehicle approached a railroad crossing with crossing gates down. Webb attempted to drive around the crossing gate, but was unable to clear the intersection before being impacted by a CSX train.

Webb was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by the Simpson County Coroner.

State police was contacted by the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office and asked to respond to the fatal collision.

The investigation continues and is being led by Trooper Mike Wathen. The Simpson County Sheriffs Office, Franklin-Simpson Ambulance Service, Simpson County Coroners Office, Franklin-Simpson Fire Rescue, and other state police personnel assisted at the scene.

No other information had been released as of press time.
