Chronic Disease Self-Management Program slated
There will be a chronic disease self-management program beginning Jan. 8 through Feb. 12. This is a six-week workshop that will occur on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. at the Simpson County Senior Center located at 1301 Crestmore Drive. Simpson County Democratic Party Meeting
The Simpson County Democratic Party’s monthly meeting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 6 p.m. at The Old Favorite located at 118 W. Kentucky Ave. Brian Pedigo, of Glasgow, who is a candidate in the Democratic primary for State Senate District 9, will be at the meeting.
AARP Chapter #335
The AARP Chapter #335 will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 at First Baptist Church. Mayor Larry Dixon will be the speaker. It will be a covered dish luncheon.
MLK events set
The African American Heritage Center’s Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Celebration is Sunday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m. at Elevated Missionary Baptist Church, with Katie Briggs as the speaker. The Franklin-Simpson Human Rights Commission’s MLK breakfast is Monday, Jan. 20, at 8 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Barrett Wright as the speaker. The breakfast will be followed at 9:30 a.m. with a march to Greater Taylor Chapel Church, where Pastor Charles McCutchen Jr. will begin speaking at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, is the national observance of Martin Luther King Jr. day.
MLK creative art and essay contest
The Martin Luther King Jr. creative art and essay contest will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and end on Friday, Feb. 21. The contest will be open to all students attending F-S schools, those homeschooled in Simpson county, and those attending churches in Franklin, Ky. Contest rules and guidelines may be picked up at the AAHC, WFKN, or at any of the school offices beginning Wednesday, Jan. 22. You may also email AAHC500@gmail.com to request a copy of the contest rules and guidelines. There will be a winner and a runner up in each age category.
CSFP Commodity Distribution dates set
The next CSFP commodity distribution date will be Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants must be at least 60 years old, live in Simpson County, and be income-eligible. For more information, 270-598-9986.
CERT Training Class
The Simpson County office of Emergency Management’s next Community Emergency Response Team class begins February 6. The class covers basic preparedness and first aid.
