The season of giving is upon us. The holidays bring such joy to many of us as we spend time with family and friends going from one gathering to the next. As we begin the month of December, the Franklin Business and Professional Women are gearing up to join in the festivities of the season with our annual Christmas Party and Dirty Santa with holiday decor. The party will be held at the Old Favorite on the square in downtown Franklin on Monday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. with a catered meal. Please see our latest newsletter for further details which is posted to our Facebook page 'Franklin Business and Professional Women.'

At our November monthly meeting, we were blessed to have two guest speakers from the Family Resource and Youth Service Center, Lacey Phillips and Constance Blane, speak to us about FRYSC and the Elf Connection project which services families in need during the Christmas season. The school system helps to identify students of families in need. The parents are asked to earn points by attending classes and volunteering hours including attending parent-teacher conferences and parenting classes on topics such as healthy eating, couponing and lice and bed bug education. This year they have identified 95 children who are in need this Christmas. The families will receive help with the Christmas gifts focusing mostly on essential items such as clothing and hygiene items, but also a few toys to help brighten their Christmas. The family will also receive a food basket with the child's gifts. Although FRYSC is funded through the free and reduced lunch program, the communities help is needed to make sure all these children's wishes are granted. Anyone who would like to help is encouraged to contact FRYSC. BPW has helped with several FRYSC programs including sponsoring one of the children for the Elf Connection. This year, BPW has decided to sponsor two of the children and ensure they are supplied with the best possible Christmas gifts. We are proud of our tradition of giving and proud we can be a part of this great project.

In other BPW news, during our November business meeting, with Franklin BPW Vice President, Kristin Crafton, presiding, the club voted to support both Sharon Taylor-Carrillo and myself, Laura Tyree, in seeking state office this coming summer at the Kentucky Federation of Business and Professional Women's state conference. The conference is scheduled for June 21-22, 2019 in Danville, Kentucky. Franklin BPW member Cathy Hughes, the current KFBPW state President-Elect, will also be installed as KFBPW state President at this conference. Sharon is seeking the office of Nominations Chair while I, Laura, seek the office of vice president.

I hope that we will see many of you at our Franklin BPW Christmas party this month or out enjoying one of the many activities our community has to enjoy this holiday season. On behalf of Franklin BPW, to each of you, I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
