The Octagon Hall Museum is featured in a documentary entitled “Southern Haunts.”
The documentary will be shown in its entirety at the Western Kentucky University Mass Media Complex on Normal Drive in Bowling Green on Monday, Feb. 27 beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
“Southern Haunts” is scheduled to air on Kentucky Educational Television (KET) this spring.
The documentary was produced in the fall of 2005 to highlight the legends and myths of historical sites in Kentucky and middle Tennessee that have a reputation of being the scariest haunts in the south. Created by award winning producer Zac Adams and narrated by TV and radio personality Charlie Chase the documentary provides first hand stories of the area’s paranormal. In addition to Octagon Hall other sites included in the documentary are Carnton Plantation, Shiloh battlefield, Thomas House Ben and Breakfast along with Adams, Tenn. home of the infamous “Bell Witch.”
The documentary was released in late 2005 to PBS stations in several southern states receiving high viewer ratings.
Octagon Hall, an eight-sided antebellum home built in 1859 located on U.S. 31-W north in Simpson County, opened as a museum and archives in 2001. The museum provides a glimpse into the day-to-day Civil War experience along with the structure’s paranormal activities. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Museum hours of operation and tour availability is Wednesday - Saturday, 8 - 11:30 a.m. and 1 - 3:30 p.m.
